Nothing. What's a motto with you? My new motto for life right now is "If you harass enough people, you'll get exactly what you want."

I've been working ona scheme to have a political rally here in Athens, GA. And let me tell you this: Dreams DO come true! We have an historic venue we have some awesome talent( here and here)We are working on some big name speakers... and we will be having some local folks do short speeches. (I might be one of them!) I'm ok with all of this. The plans are getting smoothed out, the fundraising is going well, ads in newspapers etc... are being placed, and people are getting excited!

Here's the problem... WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR!?!??!?! There will more than likely be over 1000 people there! EEK! Suggestions ladies. Let's here 'em!

I want something fun and funky, but classic and comfortable. Not too casual and not too dressy. Help me out here friends. PLEASE!

THIS is a very interesting history of the paisley pattern. I just adore paisley! It's like a floral print... but not... all at the same time.

Hi. Yes, I am around. I just don't get a chance to wear very much that is not AT&T! But, I did get out a little this last week and I have a few outfit pictures to share. I'm also growing my hair out. I haven't had it long in almost 10 years. I don't know if I can stand to grow it out. Right now, all I want to do is cut it all off!! How do you get thru that transition phase while growing out hair? And I also have hair envy of Leah's hair. I think she has the prettiest hair and I want it!! LOL

The sweater is thrifted Land's End, the shirt and boots are Target, jeans are Old Navy, and the new (birthday!) purse is Michael Kors via TJ Maxx. You can't really see my boots that well in this pic. I'll include a pic with the boots but I have this weird what the heck look on my face! LOL

I have on the cutest necklace that I got at this store called Sparkle in Lawrenceville, GA. I think they have an Etsy store, too. It's two sided. Here's all three pendants I got on the same day. This is our 300th post! Are you EXCITED?!?!?! I'M EXCITED!!!! WOOOO HOOOOO! ... eh hem... ok sorry about that. I'm calm now.

I'm going to showcase some of my great finds from Peace Place last week. Are you ready? We all know I am!

Found this neat little top with a gold sequin detail around the v-neck. It still had the tags on it and it fit so well. Krystle hasn't been around the blog much lately but she is in fact in this picture. See the phone in my left hand? I was talking to her when I took this picture.

I just loved this 70's vintage dress. Polyester floral on top attached to a green velvet skirt. What's not to love? Except that it wasn't very flattering where the two pieces met so I covered it up with my denim vest. (also from pp)

I don't know why I liked this dress so much in the store... still debating. I think I may crop it to a tunic length. Opinions?

I have this dress pinned in the back which is why my arms look so awkward. It will definitely need to be altered but I couldn't resist. Olive and I go waaay back.

This little vintage beauty still had the original tags on it! The interesting thing was that there wasn't a barcode to be found. Funny huh? It is tad too large for me. any suggestions on how to make this dress a little more flattering?

You all know my love affair with chartruese. I just HAD to have this skirt. I almost paired it with a chocolate brown sweater... but why would I do that when I can wear it with another polky print?

I'm still on the fence with this tunic? mini jumper? I will obviously NEVER wear it alone as a dress. I like the idea of it but worry that it's a little too early 90's. Opinions? I'm also thinking it will make a fun maternity top someday. (WARNING! This is NOT, I repeat NOT an announcement... just keeping my options open) I have a ton more, but don't want to overwhelm you with pics today... or make you jealous of my thrifty finds! ;) I'll post more tomorrow! There is a really neat rally going on today in Washington D.C. It's called "Veterans for *** ****" If I were going... this is what I'd wear.

Real baaad... Ok so it's not depression or anything totally serious. But my some of my family members out in Washington state planned a political event and the candidate that they (and I) support is going to show up! And since I'm AAAALLLLL the way down here in the Peach State... I'll be missing it. My silver lining was that CNN would be holding a GOP debate in Atlanta and it was possible that because of my work with the campaign I had a chance at some tickets. Well... all the candidates but one turned down the invite to the debate. So here I am moping about, wishing I was in my hometown today to shake hands with my favorite presidential candidate.

I'm going to Peace Place for some retail therapy.

I got this great royal blue skirt at Peace Place. 100% silk! It is light as a feather and feels amazing on my skin. The polky shirt, black kitten heels and blue beads are also a Peace Place finds. The flower brooch is self made from a silk dress I cut up from Peace Place. If there is ANYthing that can cheer my up today... it's Peace Place.

Pull the Wool Over

My mother-in-law gave me this really neat wool jacket. It's lightweight but REALLY warm. The weather here has been too warm to actually wear it... until now. Can we say 19 degrees? YIKES! So... now that I've had it hanging in my closet waiting to wear for almost 2 months, it finally gets to make a debut here at southern comfort.

There is no "if" in chief. But what about kerchief? Because if kerchiefs are wrong... I don't wanna be right. I have fallen head over heals with big, square scarves. They are a great way to spice up a plain shirt or to make a dress seem a little more casual.

I'm about to be super busy the rest of this week. Making dinner for a friend who just had a baby, church activities for 8-11 yr old girls, county campaign meeting for my favorite cadidate and date night with the hubby the rest of this week. That's on top of the usual toilet scrubbing, floor mopping, sheet changing, homeschooling... So these pictures will have to satisfy you for the rest of the week.

This is Ben this morning before he left for a meeting in Atlanta. I thought he looked so good, I had to snap a picture! And even better? That suit? It's a Stafford that he got for **$2** at the Habitat ReStore. We've got more in the dry cleaning than the suit!

*DISCLAIMER* I realized the other day that my posts may confuse some people as to what I ACTUALLY wear each day. My posts are more ideas of outfits I come up with along the way. Some are pictures of outfits I wear to church on Sunday and some are outfits I wish I had a reason to wear. Today's outfit is what I plan on wearing to church this coming Sunday. I did not in fact wear it today on Friday, February 3, 2012 while I scrub my toilets, vacuum and mop my floors or prepare dinner for the missionaries from our church. So with that little piece of information out of the way...

I practically stole all the elements of this outfit. The ruby and diamond ring was almost given to me by a jewelry store I used to work by. I went in tried ont he ring, loved it and decided it was too expensive. The owner said "I'll let you have at half price." Done! Not sure why she did that, but I'm glad to have it. As you know, Lise gave me the ATL fur collar cardi, the teal shirt and burgundy shoes were found at Peace Place. And the ATL skirt... I literally walked right in to Krystle's house, saw it laying with some other laundry, squealed and said "I'm going to borrow this k?" and I walked right back out of her house with it. Thanks Krystle! You're the best!

Oh my! This is an outfit I wore to church a few weeks ago. I found this AMAZING shirt at... (should I even say it?) The pencil skirt is also from there... as are the shoes. The cardi is from the Wal-Mart $3 sale rack about 8 years ago. And the amazing belt and ring are from my good friend, Emily.

I never really do animal print but thought it would be fun. My hubs also does not like animal print so I warned him ahead of time. "Hey honey... Tomorrow I'm going to wear a big ruffly shirt... and a tiger ring... and a leopard belt... and a pencil skirt... so brace yourself." (He also does not like the way pencil skirts hug my tushy. Sorry dude. Can't help it.) I also like the way the leopard belt ties in the black from the shirt and the tan from the skirt.

My 6 1/2 year old daughter said I "looked like that weird lady from the movie." I still haven't been able to figure out which one she is talking about. Any guesses?

Ol'Navy

I found a pic on pinterest and I just loved the concept of a navy polka-dot dress with an olive cardi. Since I have both I thought I'd give it a try.

Now the dress was one of those late 80's early 90's creatures. Long, puffy sleeves, mid-calf length, collar, button down to the elastic waist with a matching polka-dot belt AND shoulder pads... how can I forget those?. I tried to alter it by removing the elastic and shoulder pads. Shortening the sleeves and the hemline. Seems easy enough right? Well... it didn't quite go like I had planned. It still looked frumpy and was i'll-fitting.

So I scrapped it and substituted my navy polky shirt for the dress. Same idea... different look. So... here's my take on olive with navy or Ol'Navy.

I Make My Own Sun

As I have said before, it has been super mild temperature-wise but so so so SO rainy. I think I could handle all of zero more days without the sun. So I decided to make my own sunshine. With this sweater from peace place.

Got this cute little cardi at Peace Place recently. I grabbed it for the color but then noticed a tiny bubble pattern. The glass buttins even look like little bubbles. I couldn't wait to style it. So I grabbed my sleeveless button down that has a suble, textured white on white dot pattern. It reminded my of the bubbles on the cardi. I felt like maybe I needed a rubber duck to go with this.

Although I can't really complain. Here in Georgia we have had a very and I mean VERY mild winter. There are sweaters and scarves and jackets I haven't even had a chance to wear yet. We have had 60+ degree weather consistenly for a month now. But with all of that warm weather has come lots of rain.... SURiously. LOTS! I'm ready for the sun. I'm ready for bright colors and pastels and Cadbury Creme eggs. So... are these outfits out of season? Or does it really matter what colors and patterns you wear as long as the length/warmth/layering is appropriate for the weather?

I liked the black slip under the brown dress especially with my black and brown argyle tights AND the scarf has brown and black in the details. I pulled the red out of the scarf with the belt.

sweater dress- thrifted, scarf, thrifted, tights- wal mart, boots... you know. belt- target, and finally the NECKLACE- thrifted! It isn't anything too terribly impressive except that silver ball in the middle spins and I instantly thought of Hermoine's time turner! I feel like the "brightest witch of my era" when I wear it. ;) I think I said "SHUT UP!" at lest 20 times when I found it!

I'm either getting a.) really good at this title naming thing or b.) going really overboard.

I am a fiend for texture! I just love anything that is soft. This ATL cardi was given to me by Lise. I am so glad she did. Normally I wouldn't pick anything out with fur. (why am I afraid of fur?!?!) But it made me feel like a glamorous millionaire! Add my velvet pants, oxford heels and some necklaces... voila!

Lise also gave me the small necklace. I love the cloudy look to these gems, don't you?

A New "Lise" on Life

hahahha... I know. Funny right? So Lise gave me a gigantic bag filled with some seriously cool duds. In fact, I'm still trying to figure out why she gave them to me in the first place... I mean BESIDE that fact that 's she's cool AND she loves me... Guys! Seriously some of this stuff has not ever been worn!

But the event in which I feel like my life has taken change for the better happened about 3 weeks ago. As you know, I homeschool my oldest 2 children. Elizabeth is in first grade and Susan is in Pre-K. And we have struggled... for real STRUG-GULD! this year trying to figure out how to balance the priority of her academics with the priority of changing the baby's diaper. Or the priority of feeding the 4 year old and 3 year old lunch. Or the priority of washing dishes and folding laundry and vacuuming... you get the picture. I was stretched waaay too thin and she was NOT motivated to do her school work independently. I couldn't walk away from her and expect to come back to her still sitting at the table doing her assignment. I was stuck for 3 hours hoovering over her trying to get her to do just one math or language arts or whatever assignment. It was exhausting and frustrating and it was turning me into the most horrible, yelling, cranky pants mom in the WHOLE world. I was ready to give up. I cried my tears and felt the pain of guilt and failure wash over me. I was going to have to put her back in public school.

Then, my friend told me about an online program that she uses to homeschool her first grader. It is only $20 per month for access to the 1st grade curiculum as well as access to Kindergarten and 2nd grade. We gave it a try... and guess what?!?! She LOVES it! She will sit for hours on end doing lesson after lesson without a single complaint! She has already finished all of the 1st grade math, most of the 1st grade language arts, all of the 1st and 2nd grade science and social studies! So here we are. Just a month after all of the sadness and drama. ALMOST done with 1st grade! But since it is a comuter based program I haven't been able to pry her off of it long enough to get some blogging done. So here I am! Back in the saddle so to speak! And to top it all off... I have some new clothing items and jewelry from one of the most beautiful, stylish, fashionable and generous friends I know! Thanks Lise! You always give the best hand-me-downs!

I got this purse at Goodwill this week for $4 and I thought it was so cute, I just had to share it with y'all!! It says it's all leather and it feels like it is. But I can't find a brand name on it anywhere.

I love this pink gingham shirt. I just wish I could find a blue one just like it!! These suede loafers are several years old. I paid way too much for them at Macy's and I barely ever wear them!

Yeah, I thought I'd wish you all a Happy New Year before Valentine's Day. I'm still around, even if I'm not posting. And I'm reading your blogs, even if I'm not commenting. I just haven't felt the posting bug, you know?

A lot of things have changed in the last several months and I just haven't felt like taking pictures and posting. Not to mention that you really don't want to see me in AT&T shirts everyday. I am officially stating that I'm stepping back from Southern Comfort. I may post every now and again, if the mood strikes.

We started this blog because A. We were bored at work. B. We thought it'd be a blast to do together. and C. I wanted to get out of the blahness of style that I'd fallen into. And we accomplished all those things. We are no longer at that boring job. And it has seriously been a blast. I've met some amazing people thru this blog and been inspired! I do feel like I've stepped up my style. There is nothing like having your picture taken every day to make you step it up a notch!

I do want Leah and Krystle to keep on posting. I think they both have wonderful styles. Leah always amazes me with her finds. I swear we could go to the same place and she could find the gold where I couldn't! So please keep reading Southern Comfort every day! The original peeps may have changed but the heart of Southern Comfort hasn't. We are still small town Southern girls looking for great bargains!

Feeling a Little Koi

I didn't see the shipping price and INSTANTLY regretted bidding on it. I ultimately won this ring and dreaded it's arrival. Even when the ring came I regretted the purchase and hadn't planned on wearing it. When I put the outfit together i was looking through my expanding ring collection and "The Little Koi That Could" jumped out at me. It was PERFECT! And I was so happy that I had it. How's that for an underdog fairytale ending?

So I found this super cute Style&Co navy gingham button down. It's a tad too large but I was excited to see what I could do with it.

Ever have one of those outfits that feels fantastic on, makes you super confident, but then photographs poorly? Yeah... it's like this. I loved the idea of pattern mixing with a monochromatic theme. I popped it witht his magenta cardi and added silver jewels. Opinions? Hit or miss?

I got this really gorgeous scarf from my sister-in-law, Elyse, for Christmas. It has all my favorite oranges, greens and purples in it and is super lightweight but so soft and warm on my neck. It is from a company called "Not for Sale" They work with women in 3rd world countries to keep them out of the slave trade. It's a really wonderful idea and it makes me love the scarf even more!

I received this scarf as a gift from a super wonderful friend. It is MY shade of green. It makes my eyes look more green and my hair look more red. Plus it's one of those awesome ruffly-scrunchy kind. I was so excited to wear it.

I paired it with my chartruese cardi because I liked the colors together. They are similar colors yet not really the same all at the same time. Then I realized what this outfit really looked like...

It was difficult to fit it in to our work schedules, but we did it and it's done! YAY! And I have THE best husband. He LOVES to wrap. I hate to wrap, cause I'm really bad at it. And he is really good. So he does all the wrapping! It's awesome!

I posted this close up because I wanted you to see my sparkly snowflake earrings and to draw your attention to the tree. See the ornament with the pictures? That's Leah at 3 1/2 and Blake at 2. I love those pictures. They are so cute. And they are the only personal ornament on either of my trees. I'm not big on personal, sentimental or hand made ornaments. I know. Bad mama. But I'm just not. But that one ornament is my concession. Anyone else have any weird Christmas hangups?

I mainly posted this picture just to show you a little more of my Christmas decorations. It's not like a lot of people come to my house to see them, so y'all are my guests! (Side note, isn't it sad that people don't "visit" anymore? I remember when we were kids always going to a cousin's house. The parents "visited" and the kids played. No one really does that anymore.) Anyway, putting out Christmas decorations is a JOB, isn't it? And it's a shame to go to all that work and no one really see it! I think we should all just have an open house party here in blogger world!!

I'm trying to make this limited wardrobe a little different everyday. Whatever I'm outwardly wearing, whether a blouse or a sweater, has to have the logo on it. And I have to keep in the team colors of royal blue, white, black, light blue, light green tops and the pants can only be in the khaki color family, black, blue, dark brown or gray. Shoes have to be brown, gray or black. No peep toe. (And my tat can't show!) I know it doesn't really SOUND that limited, but it is. So I've been trying to add jewelry, a scarf, a belt and patterned hose/tights to make it more me. One of the guys just couldn't understand why my belt was knotted instead of buckled. He just shook his head and said, Only a girl would think of doing something like that. LOL Well, it was just another way of trying to "deck" myself!

We finished our Christmas shopping today! How about you?

So, this is my take on Leah's 'Pattern Party'... It's hard for me to be as bold and daring with my colors and patters as she is...so today, I went with nude colors and subtle patterns--something a little more 'my style'.

I was laughing so hard in this picture because my son was riding on the dog as if she were a horse saying 'Giddy-up, Pinto!'...

I have a love affair with Eddie...Bauer, that is! I ALWAYS love most everything they have in that store! It seems to be the perfect combination of womanly/trendy. Both the scarf and the blouse came from Eddie Bauer. Gotta love it!

Blue Christmas

Blue Christmas. Get it. I'm wearing blue...beside a Christmas tree.... I crack myself up!

So, this past weekend was my last weekend of training. No more driving back and forth to Atlanta and staying in a hotel. YAY! But, I must say the Homewood Suites Hilton on Cobb Parkway in Atlanta was awesome. They have a free hot dinner Monday thru Thursday nights and a free hot breakfast every morning. The rooms were nice and spacious and the food was great. They couldn't have been any nicer. Whenever we go somewhere, I will be sure to check for a Homewood Suites! (And no, I am not being paid for this gushing! LOL)

My training group and I ate very well, for the last month. We got money for meal allowances while there and we made the most of it. But I am definitely paying for it now. My weight is up and my clothes are tight! ACK! Back to the diet!!

Granny Glam and the Librarian

No offense to anyone out there is who is a grandmother. My own mother was a Grandma at 37 (which is only 9 years old than I am right now... YIKES!) If you are reading this you are probably not wrapped up in a crochet shawl, walking with a cane to the store to get your 65 cats more food. My outfit today was indeed inspired by those kinds of grannies... but hopefully in a little more glamorous way.

Krystle and I take our kids to the library every Thurdsay. The walls in the meeting room were not the greatest backdrop, but here we are! Krystle said she likes to dress like an elementary school teacher. I think she hits the nail on the head most days. Professional enough to look pulled together yet casual enough to get on the floor to play blocks or change a diaper.

I think since we were at the library we'll just call her a librarian today instead of teacher. So what's got you inspired lately?

Gray Skies Are Gonna Clear Up!

I know I've been MIA lately. Sorry about that. I've been crazy busy. But Leah and Krystle have been doing an EXCELLENT job. You'd never know Krystle was a newbie at this! And Leah still amazes me with her $1 finds.

So, I've got good news and I've got bad news.

Bad news: I lost my insurance job back in October.

Good news: I FINALLY found a new job with AT&T!

Bad news: I have to wear only certain colors and AT&T shirts.

Good news: I still can wear some accessories to make the outfits ME!

I've been in training for the last month. Thank goodness, training is OVER on Saturday!! Woohoo!!

I'll have to get a couple of pictures of me in my work attire to post on the blog just so you can see how I look. But in the meantime, I do have a couple of pictures of me in "regular" clothes that I don't think I've posted yet. And I'm wearing gray in both of them, hence the title. This first outfit is actually what I wore for my job interview for AT&T. I was a little hesitant about the red belt, since it was an interview, but I felt like the belt was true to ME, you know? I don't know if you can really see it, but I have on a penguin bottle cap necklace, too. Also, very me!

I'm not sure where I wore this next outfit. But I love the yellow with the gray!

I'll try to be around more but with a retail work schedule, it's going to be more difficult. One of the great things about having all of us doing this blog is that usually if one can't post, someone else can!

What exactly constitutes a party?

I think this group of outfits definetly fits this category.

As soon as I saw this skirt at Peace Place last summer I KNEW I wanted to wear a triped shirt with it... is that weird? I also have been waiting to find the perfect boots because I also knew I wanted to mix brown and black. My inspiration for this outfit.

This pattern party may have exceeded maximun occupancy standards... IDK. I almost felt like I was trying too hard. Opinions? Inspiration here.

THIS party however, seems to be just right. Houndstooth shoes, argyle tights, pinstripe skirt, geometric print shirt details. Maybe because they are all of the same color. Monochromatic I believe is the term. (also snuck in my brooch party... you know just for fun.)

This one is a little toned down. Just my amazing plaid taffeta shirt (from Peace Place) with a detachable ruffle. (SHUT UP! I KNOW!) and a blue faux snake skin shoe. I liked the idea of pulling that bright blue from the plaid shirt.

In this picture I am indeed watching my son pee on the carpet off camera... for some reason I found this funny at the time... not so much when I had to get out the steam cleaner...

How can youu NOT smile at this face though?

This is what I wore about a month ago when my hubs and I were invited to see a UGA bulldawg game... from a SKYBOX! It was amazing! A girl could get used to that kind of lifestyle AND the boxowner's wife said I "looked like a million bucks." Interestingly enough... the skirt was $1... as was the shirt... and the shoes... the long necklace and big ring were borrowed from Krystle. The earrings were gifted from Joy. And the cardi is from target big girls section clearance. The belt was also target clearance. So... $1M some times = $33.

I haven't actually worn this out yet. It's something I came up with when I was changing through these outfits. This might be one of my favs.

So as you can see I've been hosting quite a few parties lately. Anybody else in a party type mood?

double duty

So, today was Sunday. I envy those who are able to have a very relaxed and laid back Sunday afternoon/evening. One day, I hope to be able to enjoy such luxuries...as for now, my Sundays are filled with struggles of getting myself and three children (3 and under) all fed, dress, and in the car on time, keeping them quiet and corralled during church then back in the car to get home and get lunch made...THEN we pack back in the car and go visit family for dinner...and I always hate having to take the time/energy to change half-way through the day- I love having something that I can just 'tweak' a little to be comfy enough for the rest of the evening! I really liked the top half of my outfit today, so I just changed the bottom, easy-peasy, NO FUSS!

My Name is Krystle and this is my first time...

I am so excited to have the opportunity to join Lise, Joy and Leah here on Southercomfort! I am fairly new to trying to be somewhat fashionable but I am proud to report that it has been almost a full year since I've last worn a plain 'ol T-shirt out to the grocery store!

Leah has been OODLES of help in this transformation. I still forget to do my hair (see pic. below) and at times have a lack of accessories, but hey, we've got to start somewhere!

My world has been in a whirlwind all last week and into this week as well. It doesn't give me much hope when I realize that Christmas is only 32 (almost 31 days from now.) And since we've been staring at Christmas merchandise at the stores since the day after HALLOWEEN... it's almost like I've been desensitized to it. Anybody else out there feel a little perturbed about Thanksgiving being the ugly redheaded middle step child of the Holidays?

As a redheaded middle child I take extreme offense to this statement, by the way. I plan on suing myself for emotional pain and suffering. I will also demand that I make a public apology to myself denouncing such stereotypes.

So now that I have given lame excuses for not being a consistent blogger. (Like 4 kids 6 and under, homeschooling, and loosing my mind are valid excuses? WHatev! Suck it up!) And gone off on at least 2 different tangents...

Anyone else obsessed with pinterest these days? I know I am. Here are some outfits I have compiled based on things I liked on pinterest and stuff I already had in my closet.

All the elements are a little different from the original idea, but I think overall it has the same effect. *BONUS I already owned all of these things.
Jacket is Wal-Mart sale rack about 2 years ago $3. Long sleeved purple T- peace place $1. Stripe T- Peace Place $1. Scarf- Peace Place $0.25. Jeans- Peace Place $1.

I think I hit a little closer to the mark with this one. I'm looking for a better chain for this cameo my mom gave me.

Pattern Mixing And I Made This....

How crazy is it that my marigolds are STILL blooming and look this big and full? They've been blooming since like March!

I did a little pattern mixing this past week. One look, I totally stole from someone else and I can't remember where I saw it!! I would give them credit if I could remember!! I layered a gray striped t shirt over a pink gingham button down. Paired with my skinny jeans and by brown boots, I thought it was pretty cute. Ben took these pictures. Ok. So I made this. I have been wanting a circle scarf, but I'm cheap. I found online how to make one out of tshirt and it was so insanely easy! Which is good, because I am NOT crafty and I don't sew...AT ALL! You take a cotton tee and cut the hem off. The you cut it across the chest, just under the sleeves. Then stretch, stretch, stretch, STRETCH!! It's easy, cheap and cute. What more can you want? (Again, not a good pic. I'm unhappy with all my pics today!!)

Falling in Love

I've fallen head over heels in love with Fall all over again. I used to curse the fall because I knew Winter was coming next. But as I get older, I realize that we have to appreciate things (and sometimes people) for what they are not what they aren't and what they never will be or even what comes after them. Fall is certainly not the lively new awakening of Spring. It's not the sweltering, laid-back Summer. And it for sure isn't the dreary, gloomy, cold and barren Winter. (and for that I am truly grateful!)

Fall in the South is really marvelous. I certainly can't complain. Crisp mornings, warm and even hot afternoons. (my kids played barefoot outside in t-shirts and jeans yesterday Nov. 3) The colors are amazing. So amazing that I tried to copy them ALL week. Here's what I came up with...

My favorite outfit of the week. The cropped cardi is Banana Republic sale rack $7. Long sleeved T is Wal-Mart sale rack $3. The olive, silk-ish pleated shell is gifted. The silk scarf is Peace Place $0.25. Brooch is $5 Estate sale.

This top is so fun! You've seen it before but I have to just say again... I LOVE LACE! These cords are J.Crew. I got them both at Peace Place for a dollar each!

Feather top with feather earrings. Too much? The earrings were gifted by my sister, Hannah, who is indeed a rockstar. Check her and my cousin David out here and here. I liked this outfit. It's not totally "me" and I felt like I should be on the cover of a Dixie Chicks album or something but it was worth a try. Opinions?

I think I like this pumpkin colored top better with jeans but wanted to try these grey Gap cords with it. Both from Peace Place. The shoes are straight up thrifted 80's glory! I snagged them for their little wedge and that fantastic pop of teal.

For awhile there I was obsessed with polka dots. Then I moved on to stripes. Is paisley my next love? Why is my heart so fickle?

So we've reached the end of our awarness campaign. Hopefully we have shed some light on two subjects that are rarely mention but need our support. I also hope we have been able to encourage anyone facing either breast cancer or domestic violence to seek the help they need to survive and thrive!

Here's my pink and purple outfit wrap ups. I thought I'd be sick of these two colors by now but I find myself scouring my closet for ways to incorporate them.

Every have one of those outfits that looks really great on you, but just doesn't photgraph well? Yeah... this is one of those.

I tossed and turned nearly all night. I was plagued by nightmares when I finally did sleep. The dream I remember most was one of the creepiest and scariest I think I've ever encountered. I was being beat by my husband. He was bigger and stronger than me and there was nothing I could do to protect myself or my children. It was horrible!

Everytime I woke up I'd look over at my husband, laying there peacefully sleeping. I would think of all the kind and gentle times that we have shared and the precious and patient way in which he deals with our four small, rambuncious children. I quickly offered a heartfelt prayer of gratitude for this man. Who he is and who he wants to become. I love him dearly and am so thankful for the peace and safety I feel when I am with him.

Sadly, the worst part of this story is that the nightmare I had last night is what a lot women call thier reality. I can imagine her pain as she is struck not only with hands and fists, but with hateful words. I can imagine the sadness she feels when her belongings are taken away and smashed to bits. I feel the pain her children suffer as thye witness this violence in their home. The confusion they feel from the love they have for this man they call "Dad" and the anger and fear the have when he turns into a monster. The hopelessness they must all feel. Being stuck between a rock and a hard place. It's frightening. Unfortunatley most women who endure domestic violence believe that for whatever twisted reason, they deserve to be treated this way.

To those women I would like to quote a part of the pledge that we teach the young women (ages 12-18 ) of my church:"We are daughters of our Heavenly Father. Who loves us and we love him. We will stand as witnesses of God at all times, and in all things, and in all places. As we strive to live the Young Women values. Which are Faith, Divine Nature, Indiviual Worth, Knowledge, Choice & Accountability, Good Works, Integrity and Virtue..."

It is my hope that all women, everywhere can know of their worth and the love that our Father in Heaven has for them. That they may find peace and happiness in this life and that they can raise their children in freedom from fear.

Now... let's talk about clothes shall we?

My first real attempt at color blocking.

Remember the post Lise did about not buying your own clothes back from the thrift store? Yeah well... When I was pregnant with my first baby I thought I'd finally get a voluptuous womanly body so I gave all my "skinny" clothes away... yeah well... 4 kids later I'm still trying to look like a women instead of a 13 yr-old boy. So When I found (what I believe to be) my very own velvet pants at Peace Place I almost cried!

I have been saving this little number for a few months now. The colors are PERFECT for a Southern October!

And just check out this beautiful detail on the top. Copper buttons! I also love this little watch necklace. I found it buried in the backyard of my old house years ago. I cleaned it up and put it on a chain. It's my go to necklace when I want something just a little whimsical.

It was a little too cold this morning to wear this top without a cardigan... I'n hoping the day warms up enough to show off the detail on these sleeves. Who doesn't love lace?!?

How to wear brown and black is the same as black and navy. Wear at least two items of each color. What do you think?

Bullies come in all shapes and sizes. They can be an abusive spouse, parent, even someone you think is a friend. I'm sure we've all had our share of encounters with some kind of bully, school yard or otherwise.

You know the saying. "Everybody has a bum and an opinion and they all stink." Well... what do you make of this?
I would like to hear your opinion... however, I would rather not smell your bum.

Why wear a black pencil skirt when you can wear a purple one? I got this entire outfit from.... yep you guessed it... Peace Place. Skirt is Talbots!

Skirt is Banana Republic. Don't you just LURVE this belt? Yeah me too!

I got these shoes at a consignment store for $13. A major splurge for me, but they are Nine West.

I love mixing black and blue! The key is to have at least 2 items of both colors so it look like it was on purpose not dressing in the dark. The earrings and the necklace were both gifted (at different times) from Lise!

Another example of black and navy. The great thing about this skirt... besides the fact that it's ATL... it's gifted from Joy. I call it my "Skirt of Joy." It was a little short so I wear my great little vintage slip with it to give me the extra length.

I bought this fun little number while on vacation to my hometown in Washigton state. It was in the very most bargain bin clearance section of Ross. It was too big, too short, and had a weird little bow ties to the top of the ruffle... I fixed all that with a pair of scissors (ok honesty check here... it was a pocket knife in my sister's car... I couldn't wait to get to my mom's house to cut it off... that bow had to be dealt with immediately!) And another of my prized vintage slips and my little precious leafy belt again saves the day!

My girls call these my Jasmine shoes.

If olive, coral, chartruese and plum are all neutrals (which they are right? I haven't found any colors they don't look nice with) then they can all go together. Am I wrong? Someone please tell me before I wear this again...

I thought I'd just post a few fast facts about domestic violence and breast cancer today. Some, you've probably already heard. Others will surprise you.

Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the United States, more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined.

There are over twice as many animal shelters as their are shelters for battered women.

Domestic violence occurs among people of all races, ages, socio-economic classes, religious affiliations, occupations, and educational backgrounds.

Boys who witness domestic violence are twice as likely to abuse their own partners and children when they become adults. And Children who witness violence at home display emotional and behavioral disturbances as diverse as withdrawal, low self-esteem, nightmares, self-blame and aggression against peers, family members and property.

And THIS is why I wear purple.

Breast cancer is the #1 cancer in women, and is the 2nd leading cause of death in women. (Lung cancer is the first.)

Early detection is key. Breast cancer is less common but more aggressive in women under 50. GET YOUR MAMMOGRAMS!!

Diet and exercise make a difference! Weight gain after age 18 or after menopause is a risk factor. In turn, losing that added weight may decrease your chances of getting breast cancer.

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. About 2,140 men in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.

First of all, here's my purple picture post of the day. (Love alliteration!) For some reason, in every one of the pics in this outfit, I'm looking down. I don't know why. The tank underneath is sequined, but you can't really tell in the picture. (And don't you just love how the gray in my hair matches the argyles on the sweater? LOL)

So, I love surprises. Well, sometimes. I love GOOD surprises! I love FUN surprises! Other kinds of surprises? Not so much.

Yesterday, Leah brings in the mail and there is a package from Target. She said, What'd you get from Target? I was like, Uh, nothing. I haven't ordered anything.

I opened it up and had a great surprise! It was this freebie pack thing that I'd ordered weeks and weeks and weeks ago that I had forgotten about. It was something I found out about thru a link from some blog or another. I wish I could remember which one it was. AND, even better, it was pink and purple, which is GREAT for this month!! It was like they just knew!

A Place of Peace

My favorite thrift store as many know is Peace Place. The majority (95%) of my clothing, accessories and shoes come from there. The have different items on sale daily. I LOVE to go on Wednesdays and Fridays when they have their "bag sale" 8 items for $8. Can't beat that! They are located literally 2 minutes from my house so it's easy for me to just "pop in." I know the sales and managment staff by name and they know me! It's a wonderful place and best of all. They are a non-profit organization that funds a domestic violence helpline and battered women's shelter! Check out their websites and go visit them to support their noble cause! Giving those in need a place of peace.

I'm wearing my purple again to support Domestic Violence Awareness!!

I know we've all heard the following verses at weddings. But really, really READ them. Read them aloud and LISTEN to the words and what they are saying.

1 Corinthians 13

¹ If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. ² If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. ³ If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Basically, one can be the most charming, most charismatic person around. They can be intelligent and well read and seem to have a resounding faith in God. They give to charity and help others in need. But if they do these things for love of themselves and not because they feel love for others, then it's for nothing.

⁴ Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. ⁵ It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. ⁶ Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. ⁷ It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

This is the most important section to me. I think the words speak for themselves. If this is not your relationship, then maybe it's the wrong relationship.

I won't pretend to even get this part. I feel like it means that the older we get, the more we understand about true love. I keep thinking about a child with a baby chicken. (My parents raise chickens, so...) He can love that chicken in his childish, selfish way. He wants to pet it and squeeze it and keep it safe, all for himself. But if he " loves" it too much, he'll crush it to death and his so called love will kill it. Hopefully, as an adult, we realize this. One day, when we see God, we will fully know what true love is.

¹³ And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

What more is there to say, really? The greatest of these is LOVE!

Even though I was born in the 80's and brought up around computers nearly my whole life I don't quite know how to fix this problem and my husband is none too keen on this fashion blogging idea. I think I was born in the wrong century...
But on to bigger and better things! Breast cancer awareness! I smiled in my pink pictures because there is great progress being made in this area! Earlier detection, more effective treatments, more survivors! We are getting there girls! Just like our other cause this month (Domestic violence) this topic can be somewhat embarassing to discuss. Laughter Is The Best Medicine!

We are also going to put some focus on breast cancer awareness this month, as well as domestic violence. I've had friends and family affected by both. So we are going to be alternating wearing pink purple as much as we can this month! Today, I couldn't decide, so I wore a scarf with BOTH pink and purple!!

Domestic violence and breast cancer are no laughing matter but sometimes laughter is truly the best medicine.

Sharing a joke and laughing with a friend can sometimes make an unbearable situation...a little more bearable. It's a moment of normalcy in the middle of abnormal times. It's a welcome respite from reality.

Laughter heals. That’s the motto of Save the Ta-tas - which raised awareness and more than $500,000 to fight breast cancer. Save the Ta-tas won the Change the World Gala Humanitarian Award.

Laughing is fun. It's contagious, it feels good, it releases anxiety. Laughter releases endorphins that have pain-relieving properties. Laughter is GOOD!

While helping a friend that has cancer or supporting a friend that is dealing with domestic violence, sometimes they just need a little laughter. They need to talk about something that isn't so much about their situation. They need to go shopping, get a manicure, be giggly and girly and just take a minute to forget their troubles. This time is as important as any doctor visit or therapy session. Laughing together doesn't trivialize what they are going through. Rather, it lets them know that no matter what they are going through, you still love them and you're there for them in any way that they need you to be.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Good

Hairdresser told me that he was tired of seeing me in nothing but thrifted clothes. So, he sent me to Talbots to buy a new outfit. He told me I was not even allowed to LOOK at the sale rack.

I will have to admit, that after getting over SSS (super sticker shock), I wallowed in the customer service, attention and amazing clothes and shoes!!!! Did I complete my assignment? Why yes, yes I did.

Of course I picked the leopard print skirt!!! And my fav color of coral!

The bad and the ugly?
Today is my oldest sons 16 birthday. Born in the month of October which is "Domestic Violence Awareness Month". Like his mother, he feels deeply for others. He has done amazing things all on his own to benefit Project Safe. His heart has so much sorrow and compassion for the children in situations of domestic violence. As you may have noticed, so do I. I buy many of my outfits from places like "Peace Place" and "PS Too". Both which assist in ending and protecting those suffering from the effects of DV.

I know this is mainly a fashion blog, but I need to take a moment and talk to you about something.
We read the statistics, we feel bad. But are we moved to action? Perhaps we are not moved, or have a clear picture in our minds. Something which give a face to domestic violence. I talk with many people who imagine homeless people or children of parents with drug addiction. While is probably does affect some of these people I want to give you a more clear picture. Because it is found in homes of all price ranges. It effects those in same and opposite sex relationships. It doesn't matter what income you are. You will find it in numerous homes.

Unlike some illnesses, it is not easy to see. We imagine seeing someone with constant broken bones or bruises. But that is not always the case. The spouses often put on a happy face outside the home. But within the walls, the family crumbles. Many wives (for ease I am using wife, but realize that men can be the abused as well) have no access to the checking account. When they do go shopping the must show receipts and account for every penny. The must stand by as the abusive spouse records their mileage and gas usage. If they are allowed to have a phone, it is closely monitored. As are their whole lives. Some do not have keys to their own home as they are so controlled.   They are told what to wear, who to be friends with and where they are or are not allowed to go.
It is hard for them to get jobs or get training or education because the abuser will find ways to make it to difficult.
The abuser is too afraid of them making their own money or becoming too independent and thus hard to control. In some heartbreaking situations it turns from mental and verbal abuse to physical. Many of these women feeling by this time that somehow they deserve this kind of treatment.

What about the most innocent victims??? The children who lose sleep because they are afraid. Who find it difficult to eat...or they over-eat because they are finding ways to cope with the abuse in their home. And when the abuse becomes physical on a spouse....it is usually only a matter of time before it turns on to the children. How do we protect these little ones? It sickens me to hear phrases like "we need to get them to a safe place".
Home SHOULD be the safe place!!!!

And for those that have seen or lived in these situations, how do we prevent them from becoming abusive as they enter into relationships? I am not a professional. But this is 2011!!! And domestic violence just should NOT have any place in our culture!

Painfully Aware

Lise, Joy and I are some seriously happy and silly ladies who KNOW how to have a good time! We are always the first to crack a joke and tell a funny story. We take our fun seriously, but we also take our activism seriously.

This month is Domestic Violence awareness month. I bet you all know someone who has been a victim of this horrible act. I bet you know several people who live with this but would never tell you.

Don't believe me? 1 in 3 women suffer from domestic violence. Look around. Count 3 women. Statistically one of them is living with abuse. Read this. So what can YOU do about it? If you are the 1 in 3 GET HELP NOW!!! If you are the 2 out of 3 HELP SOMEONE!!! These are the signs. Watch for them and offer help before it's too late!

Purple is the color for domestic violence awareness. So this month we will be wearing the color purple to show our love and support for those who are living in a nightmare. If it Hadn't Been for Love...

Adele is currently one of my favorites!!! This song is relevant to Southern Comfort because she mentions southern states... in this song she gets into a lot of trouble, but she wouldn't "If it hadn't been for love..." This happens to me too. (Not in the vengeful, murderous rage that results in a life sentence in prison sort of trouble...) I happen to be very passionate about politics and fashion. The former does get me into serious trouble, but the latter only semi- trouble... like attempting to wear the same 30 items of clothing for 30 days. I did it though! And here's the recap. I obviously wore the chartreuse cardi from Target A LOT as well as some other favorites, Stripe T and tank etc... Which outfit is your favorite? (I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours.)

Yep, lame title. I know. I couldn't think of anything!

So, here's Thursday's outfit. I don't like it. It was better in the planning than the execution. The pants are too big, so is the belt. If the pants and belt had fit better, I think it would have been ok.

This last outfit is my favorite of the week. I found this at our favorite thrift store, PS Too, a couple of weeks ago and I've been dying for it to get cool enough to wear it. Well, it's still in the 80s, but it's pretty cool first thing in the morning...and if you run the air cool enough during the day.... I also got the red belt at PS Too. I've been wanting a red (cheap) skinny belt and have had no luck finding one. These were on some pants and I begged her to let me just buy the belt. I liked the pop of red with this outfit. (When don't I like red, though!)

There is No Fair Here

My girls (aged 6 and 4 1/2) were squabbling about something not being fair. I used my mommy wisdom and told them "Fair has a ferris wheel and cotton candy. There is no fair here." Good right? Shut those little whiners DOWN! BOOM! Just like that. (Poor little things. You should have seen there little faces.)

Or so I thought. A few days later I was asking my 6 yr. old if it was fair that she play with her sister's toys and then not have to share hers? "Mom, fair is pony wides and wemonade. Dere is no faiw hewe." And BAM! Just like that I was put in my place by a six year old. (Yeah it happens more than you would imagine... *sigh*)

Lise couldn't cut my hair this time so I went to see my previous hairdresser (and Ben's cousin) Terry Jordan at Head Games. (Seriously, local peeps, check him and the salon out. They are all great!) Though I missed Lise, I had a great time with Terry. He's hysterical and has some great old stories! Thanks, Terry!

Then it was off to get Leah, pick up Jake's meds and get some groceries! I was so busy, I forgot about the Georgia game! Well, at least I wore my colors to work, on Friday. How many of you wear your colors to work on Friday before game day? Or is that just the SEC?

Since I have a fantastic photographer I try to use her all in one day. These pictures are not in the order that I wore them. I mean seriously who wears the same shirt four days in a row? (No, do not give a show of hands...)

I have debated whether to rearrange them into some kind of accurate daily order, but you know what... my baby boy is probably going to be awake any minute and my 3 year old boy is potty training and walking around without underpants on... Oh the stories I could tell you about those two... *shudder* And besides I have to get the girls' home schooling done so we can go to the fair... maybe. So... here goes!

Oooo I'm a tough one eh? I feel weird smiling in my pictures because my front teeth are a little crooked. I've always been self concious about it. When I was younger I used to always cover my mouth when I would laugh. I've come along way with excepting myself but I'm still working on it. But you're scared of me in this picture. Right?
This is a picture I had to take myself with my timer... uh yeah... let's focus on the outfit and not the face shall we? I feel this is a successful attempt at mixing florals and stripes as well as black and brown. What say you?
"The Blues" blue skirt, blue shirt, blue beads oh and some yellow shoes. Too monochromatic or calming?
Weird pose but whatev.

This is one of my go to outfits when I'm trying to show someone that you CAN wear black with brown. Wooden bead necklace and brown canvas wedges paired with a black eyelet skirt just seem right to me. Opinions?

The sun was SO bright this day and I'm a novice with my camera and my photoshop abilities are laughable. The shoes are my yellow linen pointy toe heels. And the cardigan is my gold pointenelle cropped cardi. And yes, my skin really is THAT translucent. I will continue trying to avoid skin cancer thank you. And have you ever seen a tan redhead anyway?

Taking pictures by yourself is HARD! My camera has a timer. I have a tripod but I'm not sure where it is! I have a new work schedule and I go in every day from 12-5. Well, there's no one home at that time of day but me and the dog! So, some of my pictures are going to be less than stellar, but I tried!!

I'm not really digging this weather. I'm a total summer person. I love hot weather! And I'm sad to see it going. I just don't like to be cold. BUT I am happy about getting to wear my cooler weather clothes. I've missed them!!

I'm sure you've noticed that we've become a trio, and officially added Leah to our authors list. She's a great addition, isn't she?! I can't wait to see what she does for her 30 for 30. I do not have the guts to do it. I'm fickle. I like changing my mind on a whim!!

What up folks!?! I'm back! Can you believe they didn't pull my plug? (Me either...) So here I am getting ready to post some more pictures of myself which is really weird for me. I'm usually posting pictures on facebook of my 4 kids never of myself...

From Blah to OohLala!

I am at the salon explaining to someone that I am trying to grow my hair out.

The hairdresser (aka-spouse) looks at me and asks why.

Well, its simple. The longer the hair the more wrinkles it covers.

I figure in a couple more years it will be long enough to wrap around my wrinkly,

neck and my bangs will cover the forehead and crows feet. Good plan....right?

Hairdresser looks at me like I have lost my mind. He and his brother (also a hairdresser) shake their heads and explain that actually my hair was overwhelming my small features and dragging them down.

It was actually aging me!!!! Yikes!

Do Something!

The big, full thick hair is also slightly aging.

A few moments and one haircut later......

No hiding the crows feet now, but I do feel spunkier!

Hey! This is Leah. I've been mentioned a few times on this blog and let me just say it has been an honor. Not quite as honorable as being given the login name and password! (text me for the details. up for grabs for the highest bidder! OK not really...) If you are reading this blog it's because you absolutely adore Lise and Joy. (DUH!) or you are into reading blogs about fashion.

If you are into fashion blogs I'm almost positive you have heard of the "30 for 30 Challenge" You take 30 items (shoes count, other accessories don't) and mix and match them for 30 days. The point of the challenge is to appreciate what is in your closet and find creative ways to wear the clothes you already have. I feel like I do both fairly well. I'm doing the challenge because I'm a little bored and wanted a good excuse to get on this blog!

So... Lise came over and played photog for me while I played model. And let me just tell ya I've got a new found respect for those skinny, pouty, airbrushed ladies (well and it's girls now these days eh? but that's a WHOLE 'nother blog post) Trying on all those clothes lickety split was hard work! Here's my first week all in one post. I'll do next week... uh... next week... that is unless they change the password...

I am not scared to pattern mix!!!

Pretty much everything I am wearing in just about all of these pictures comes from my favorite thrift store, Peace Place. I wait for the "bag sale" when you can get 8 items for $8. Other items (teal Loft blouse and coral Banana Republic blouse) are from yard sales for no more than $1 each and everything else (striped tank, NY&Co necklace, Target Cardi) has been gifted from my lovely friend (Shout out to Krystle!)

Post Dragon*Con Depression

Post Dragon*Con Depression. It's a real thing. There's a Facebook group for it and everything!

<sigh> I miss Dragon*Con. I miss seeing cute boys and cool costumes. I miss going to a party and seeing a celebrity or five. I miss making friends with perfect strangers over a shared love of a movie or tv show. I may even miss the long lines....nah, that's taking it to far.

I may miss it so much that I've subconsciously tried to still dress in a Dragon*Con kind of way. Or I'm just a geek. Either way...

Tuesday, I may have built my entire outfit around a Superman necklace that I bought at the con. One of my favorite stores, Sparkle, always has a fabulous booth there. They always have THE cutest things. My other bottlecap necklace is from there, too. And most all the buttons that I have pinned to my lanyard. (They were about the only ones to have any jewelry related to The Hunger Games!)

Cute, huh? It reminds me of Ben because he is such a die hard Superman fan.

Dragon*Con 2011, Saturday and Sunday

We are home. And I am so very tired and have sooo much laundry. It's a good thing I'm off work Monday!!

We had a BLAST!

Saturday, we went to Dragon*Con in costume as Clark Kent and (new) Wonder Woman. The thing about Dragon*Con is that you almost feel out of place if you're NOT in costume. The first year we went, I said I was NOT going to wear a costume. 20 minutes there and I was all, I WANT A COSTUME!! People are so creative. Just when you think you can't see a better costume than the last one, you do! It's just so awesome. I don't even have pictures of a quarter of them, heck, a TENTH of them! (By the way, if you don't have an Eye-Fi memory card, you are missing out! The Eye-Fi card automatically transfers pics to your computer and/or a photo site when you turn on your computer! Just walk in the room, turn on the camera and the computer and it goes to work! It's AWESOME! Check it out!)

Ben looks really good! I liked the small touch of the Superman ring. I've been posing everyday for a year but couldn't figure out a Wonder Woman pose!!

As usual, the Steampunk is my favorite part of Dragon*Con. They just completely commit and are so talented and creative. Here's a few examples:

We didn't dress up today. We went to a couple of panels and then headed home. It was a fabulously wonderful weekend, that just flew by. Plans are already being made for next year. I leave you with this picture from the Eureka panel this morning. Wil Wheaton said that he was disappointed in his first Dragon*Con because no one had asked him to sign their boobs. So, Colin Ferguson jumps up, pulls his shirt up and gets Wil to sign his boob!! And yeah, I didn't get a picture from the actual moment cause I wasn't quick enough, but I did get this one:

Dragon*Con 2011, Friday

**WARNING** Very long, picture heavy post ahead!!

It's been a long 2 days. If I've walked 10 steps, I've walked 10 miles. I've walked so much that I can hardly move!! Ben actually threw his back out this morning!

But oh, has it been fun.

We started the day in street clothes. I wanted to get some pics with some people and didn't want to be in costume when I did.

We went to a panel with Christopher Lloyd and James Tolkan (Doc Brown and Principal Strickland of Back to the Future) first thing that morning. They were pretty entertaining. We wondered if we'd get in as we were in the back of a very long line....which ended up only getting longer and going downstairs!

That was the beginning of the line a long way away. That's the thing about DC. There's a lot of hurry up and waiting going on.

After that, we headed to the Walk of Fame. We talked to Michael Rosenbaum, Lex Luther on Smallville. We couldn't get a pic with him unless we did it later, at a shoot, for $50. Not happening. But, and here's where Matilda Joyce gets jealous, I did get a picture with Colin Ferguson. And just as Ben was taking the picture, the camera turned off and he had to turn it back on. So I got a few more seconds with Colin's arm around me!!( And I told him that Matilda Joyce asked me to get a pic for my blog! ;) LOL)

Ben and both got into a picture with Beau Bridges. He was wonderful! Had wonderful things to say about past co stars and just very genuine. He even made us check the camera and make sure the picture was good before we left!

We also got a picture with Johnny Fever, himself, Howard Hesseman. He and Ben talked music, which greatly excited Ben. (You can see Loni's lips behind us. Holy plastic surgery Batman!)

I also got a picture with Eddie McClintock from Warehouse 13. He is so cute and so very nice. And he appreciates hearing that WE appreciate that WH13 is a show we can watch with the kids.

We ended our night by getting ready to go to the masked ball. Well, we couldn't get in because there were so many people. After almost an hour, we gave up and went to a party at the Hard Rock. Matilda Joyce, this is where you hate me!! I got to party with Colin Ferguson!! (And Louis Ferreia and David Blue of Stargate Universe. Amy from Ghost Hunter, Michael Rosenbaum and Laura Vandervoot of Smallville. It was way better than the masked ball!!

And Ben has on tuxedo pants and vest that we got for $1 each

at the Habitat store. He already had the shirt, tie, shoes and hat and wig.

Between us, we have about $30 total in the outfits, including the masks!

LIVE! From Atlanta! It's DRAGON*CON 2011!!!

Well, not really live, but you get the idea!

We are in Atlanta this weekend to totally get our geek on at Dragon*Con. What is Dragon*Con, you ask? It's a huge scifi, fantasy, gaming, anime convention. We get to see some of our favorite stars and authors. But the best part is people watching and checking out all the awesome costumes. I'm going to try to post every day. TRY.

Today we are going to try to see Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson from Back to the Future! This afternoon we are going to dress up as Inara and Simon from Firefly. And tonight at 10 is the masked ball! I'm very excited about it.

I can't wait to get tons of pictures to show you guys! Oh and I got recognized in the badge pickup. I walk up and the girl goes OMG! I know you! And I'm like, "Really?" And she tells me she is a poster from this other board I used to frequent and she recognized me from my pictures! It was random and funny!! I loved it!!

Ok. We are out the door and getting started!! My other goal of the day is to meet Jen from Cakewrecks. She's here somewhere!!

I'm Seeing a Pattern Here

A year ago I wasn't much of a thrifter. I was good at shopping sales and such, but

buying "used" clothes made me itch.

Don't get me wrong, I donated a lot, but buying them?

Hah, what a difference a year has made!!

Now?

I consider myself saving the earth by recycling clothing and purchasing others discarded treasures.

I am helping other causes by buying from thrift stores that assist shelters

or give training and jobs to others.

Really there are no downsides to thrifting! At all......well....maybe one or two things.

And here they are:

Ann Taylor Loft and they are pink and black and plaid. It was love at first sight even before I saw

the $3.00 price tag. But, something seemed familiar about this adorable find.

Rule #1: When thrifting

Do NOT buy your own clothes back from thrift stores.

There was a reason you gave them away and now you paid $3 to get them back.

D U H!

They KNOW its new with tags....EVERYTHING in the store is.
I just forgot where I was for a moment.

So, keep on thrifting ladies! The upside of thrifting still outweighs the awkward moments.
