Snowpocalypse!! Snowmageddon!!
As I type this, snow is STILL falling. We already have 7 inches of snow and we still have ice on the way. If you live in a state that routinely gets snow, you're probably laughing at us right now, thinking what's the big deal? Well, 3 inches shut us down at Christmas. This? This is crippling. We don't have the resources to clear all the roads. We barely have the resources to clear the interstates around Atlanta. Out here in the boondocks, it doesn't get cleared at all. Once the ice starts, we'll probably lose power. Back in 2009, we had a huge storm and lost power for 3 days. Many people were out for the week. We waited too long about looking for a propane heater, so we won't have heat if the power goes out. But I did stock up on stuff that can be grilled and I'm not worried about losing the cold stuff because I can just put it out in the snow. ALL my washing is done. The dishwasher has been run. The tubs are full of water so we can flush toilets. We have water in containers to wash our faces and brush our teeth. The phones and other electronics are charged. We're as ready as we can be. So if you don't hear from one or both of us, you'll know it's because we are out power!

Good luck! We are expecting 10 - 14" in Boston on Wednesday and that will slow us down some. At least you've got those fabulous boots so your feet look great if you have to go out and shovel (do you have snow shovels in the South????)
ReplyDeleteLOL! We have a shovel, but it's not a snow shovel! I don't plan on leaving, so I don't think we'll be shoveling anytime soon!
ReplyDeleteWell, at least you still have power!
ReplyDeleteSnow shovels are a breed unto themselves. If you do eventually shovel yourselves out, spray Pam on the shovel and the snow slides off.
I hope you've stocked up on hot cocoa. It's mandatory during a storm.
I hear ya Joy!! I'm just across the line from you (Alabama) and we are so not prepared either. I live out in the county so I'm stuck up on this little mountain. If Rich were home he would know what we need to do to prepare for 'lights out' - cause I know it's gonna happen! I guess I need to get myself ready!!
ReplyDeleteStay warm!
Best of luck with the snow! I'm surprised we haven't seen more in the DC/MD area yet (but I'm sure things will change). You know, it's funny that preparing for snow and preparing for hurricanes require such similar procedures. I don't miss filling up all of the tubs/containers with water and checking our generator every month. Hope to see an update soon! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's snowing at our place too! It's crazy how you mentioned the preparations. Just last night I was wondering just how long I could blog on the combined battery power of our two laptops.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the well wishes! We still have power right now!
ReplyDeleteK, one of my best friends lives in the VA/DC area and she was like, Since when do you get more snow than we do?!
Renee, I'd just go to the neighbors and take advantage of them! LOL I hope you still have power, too!
Isn"t it funny how us southern states are so pathetic during a snow storm?
ReplyDeleteWe got about 4 inches at my house and now the sleet and freezing rain is coming in.
School is off again tomorrow
Sad, but so much fun when you know there really isn't anywhere you need to be!
I hate snow no matter where it is...so I feel for all of you. Looks like we are getting ours soon--Paula
ReplyDeleteOh my word - stay safe! I'm in Florida so I'm not used to snow at all! That's crazy to me!
ReplyDeleteThat last image with the snow over the house is just magical!. We had TONS of snow - had to dig a tunnel through it to get out :)
ReplyDeleteStay worm.
PS - I love your blog!
Leon
Did you lose power? Woodstock got 6 inches and then an nice thin layer of ice. Husband and I were silly and actually walked to the grocery store for ice cream yesterday! :) Do you think schools will be back in session tomorrow? The roads on my side are awful! I know it is suppose to be above freezing today, but tonight we will have another hard freeze-- 16 degrees-- and the high tomorrow isn't above freezing!
ReplyDeleteVictoria, we actually kept power! I am actually shocked by that. And school has ALREADY been called off for tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteIf you think the interstates look bad, you should see these secondary roads!
Snow makes for such pretty pictures. You have reminded me that I have it pretty darn easy just freezing my butt off in Nor-Cal. No snow for us, just me whining about my thin cotton dresses. LOL>
