Oooh La Leopard!

My lipgloss from Rue21 matches my skirt!  Yippee!
I hate getting dressed.  As I read comments from the post Joy wrote yesterday, I was happy to hear that I am not the only one who looks in the mirror and says "Could you have given me a little more to work with here God"?  I am 46 and still waiting for puberty to hit and the boobs to come in.  It's like Linus waiting for the Great Pumpkin.  It is NOT going to happen.  20 years ago it wasn't so bad, but 4 kids later (nursing did not enhance anything except my babies immune system) YIKES.  Being tall is something I have had to grow into. It was terrible at dances because I couldn't sit down or some cute short guy would ask me to dance and then I would stand up and *awkward* I am now 2 ft. taller than you.  I walked around slouching and still have the habit of doing that when talking with others.  And finding pants was basically impossible.  A 36 inch inseam?  Yeah, they didn't used to have a tall section 30 years ago.  When I saw cropped pants come in style I rejoiced!!

I think I have found the evil source of my body image though.  No, not Barbie.  Nancy Drew!!!!  Curse you girl!  I read them when I was young and pulled some from my collection to read with my daughter.  I quickly realized that there are some nasty stereotypes going on in this book!  There is Nancy who is perfect and her cousin "George" who has short hair because she is sporty and then there is poor Bess.  Bess is constantly referred to as pudgy.  George and Nancy refer to her size CONSTANTLY!  There are pages of these two discussing whether Bess should have more than a SALAD!!  Then you look at the sketchy pictures in the book.  Have you seen the pictures of Bess????  She is not pudgy.  She is thin.  Oh my gosh, Bess probably developed an eating disorder by her senior year of college which is why we don't hear anything more about these girls.  I vowed never to let this happen to my daughter who by the books standard is sporty and pudgy.  Jeeez!

My daughter and I are now reading Little Women.

Today I wanted to keep up my trying something new thing. I try to copy some of the current stars *sigh* but I was born in the wrong era because the style icons I truly love are people like Grace Kelly.  So with my love for the classics I try to add an new twist.

"What did you just say to me?
I am NOT skinny, I'm WILLOWY I tell ya!

And yes, I still slouch a little, and I may not be perfect.  But I am the perfect ME! (and having a leopard print skirt from the clearance rack doesn't hurt either).   I heard once that the most common failing in people is to depreciate their tremendous worth.  Don't do it ladies!  Each of you have more worth than you can imagine.  One great thing about being my age is that I have learned to have more courage than I thought was possible, developed a strength and depth that is not there at  21, earned some serious laugh lines from a L O T of laughing, and enjoyed friendships that will last a lifetime!  One of the things that hasn't changed is my desire to constantly try new things.  This blog was one of those things, but Joy and I enjoy every day of it.  We hope you are able to take something good away from it (not our identities though...lol)

  1. Girl, you are SMOKIN' in this outfit. This may be the best outfit I've ever seen you in!

And you don't slouch! At least, I've never seen you slouch!

  2. I will gladly trade my boobs for your willowy figure! I've been a D-cup since 9th grade. I never knew if boys liked ME or my chest.

Love the leopard! I'll be wearing leopard this weekend for the first time ever!

  4. I have never read Nancy Drew, but I look back at the books I did read as a child and am just SHOCKED by how often they reference "perfect size six figures" - clearly, I read a lot of Sweet Valley High books. It's crazy how all of these stereotypical body image things are hidden in everything aimed at girls.

On a lighter note, that leopard print skirt is stunning!

  6. WHAT A PERFECT OUTFIT!
AND I LOVE WHAT YOU HAD TO SAY!
WE ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AGE, BY THE BY!!!
    A GEMINI, TOO PERHAPS?
THAT WOULD BE KISMIT AND I AM FROM THE SOUTH, TOO.
    I AM TALL.
    OH MY GOODNESS! TWINS ???
AND FORGET ALL THE 'HYPE' ABOUT THE BOOBS ;)
CLOTHES HANG BETTER ON A SMALLER CHEST. I AM CONSTANTLY RE-ADJUSTING MY " AGE DEFYING LIFT " BRAS.
THE BOOBS ARE JUST A TREAT FOR THE HUBS, AND A BACK-ACHE FOR ME ;)
I USED TO WISH THEM AWAY, BUT MY MOM WOULD GET MAD AT ME FOR IT.
TRY BEING A FULL C IN THE 7TH GRADE. I FELT LIKE A SLUTTY FREAK ;)
    STUPID DD'S...... REALLY..............
OH, AND I HAVE A BIG NOSE, TOO :)
    TEE, HEE!

  7. Revaaaaa!!! My long lost twin!!! I read your comment and laughed so hard I had to read it again...and I laughed some more. We have way to much in common. Separated at birth perhaps?

    Hi Kelly!!

So, The boob thing is also that I have broad shoulders. Clothes makers think that if I am tall, and have broad shoulders then I am a busty gal. But I'm not so those fabulous wrap dresses are more like gap and flap dresses. :(
But, hubby is happy so..I...just wont buy wrap dresses.lol

  10. Hi, new reader here! You look great in the pic and I haven't a clue how tall you are. My inseam is a long 34". I've given the Nancy Drew books to grand-daughters without re-reading and now I'm in dispair!

  12. Terri-welcome!!! We love new readers and meeting new bloggers. I am 5ft. 11 (although at my age I've probably shrunk to a 5 10 1/2...lol)
We need to swap pants! 34 is the shortest inseam I can go with.
