Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!!

Jeans: Kohl's, Boots: Walmart
Sunnies: Michael Kors, Blazer: Sag Harbor, thrifted, Turtleneck:Coldwater Creek

No, not really! Just kidding! I HATE snow. It's cold, wet and messy. Yuck! But I do love snowflakes. Go figure. I have a collection of snowflake pendants, earrings and pins and you can see I'm wearing several of them today. Penguins, snowflakes and palm trees. There's no rhyme or reason to my collecting, is there?

The other pin I'm wearing is one from my grandmother. It's pretty old. When she died 10 years ago, I picked this out of her things. It always makes me think of her and the little ceramic Christmas tree she always put on top of her console tv. Anyone else's grandmother have a tree like this:

This is not the actual tree we have, but it looks just like this.
My mama has this tree now. And she puts it out every year. I bet this thing is 40 years old! Does your family have any kind of traditions like this? Or do you have a special ornament or Christmas piece?

Happy Weekend, Y'all!!

  1. I think the tree was a staple in every home of the 70's. My grandmother here in America had one also and this post brought back such good memories.

  4. What a great way to remember your grandmother. I love your brooch collection! I'm more of an animal brooch collector, but seasonal ones are pretty rad.

I hate snow too! I get that it's so beautiful, but it causes such a mess around here (people not knowing how to drive, going crazy at the grocery store). I am not looking forward to the temperature drop here...

  5. OMG when I saw that tree, all my relatives in NM have one of those. Cracks me up I love it. I also love your quote from Steel Magnolia's it's one of my very favorite lines from the movie and I use it all the time. Also really like the boots, you look great in this outfit.

  9. Thanks, y'all!!

Apparently this tree was popular all over the country in the 70s!!

Hey, Pam, I can do Christmas tacky, too. Maybe I should spend a week wearing my tacky Christmas sweaters? What do y'all think? LOL

  11. Oh, I've seen a tree like this! Magical! I really like all your snowflake bling. We are having flurries tonight in the KC area, although the wind is making it sound like it is worse than it is.

  12. My Grandmother has a tree like that, and one year I asked her why it was not turned on. She replied, "Oh sweetie, I've tried to get it to work, I've even sent it in for repairs, and they couldn't get it to work either." So, I picked it up and looked at it, and replied, "Well did you put batteries in it?" Her reply, "It takes batteries?!" I had no other response but to shake my head.

  14. That tree is over the top. You have to be sure that your mother leaves that to you!

We have a Christmas breakfast tradition. Back when Julia Child started on TV my mother made croissants. They are a lot of work, you're rolling and buttering nearly all day. She made them for a several years and decided that the frozen ones from Sara Lee were pretty good and switched to those.

So we have croissants and cocoa, and say that Sara made them.
